Almost all of the applications are in for the 1979 Campus Chapter Performance Program, and for the second year in a row, Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is leading the field. At this writing, SIU has accumulated 195,000 points.
The second and third highest scoring schools thus far are St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, with 118,000 points and The College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, with 101,950.
SIU received 63,300 points in the “A” (professional activities) category alone. These points represent many speaker’s meetings, career conferences, dinners, and seminars. The officers at SIU have also been very active in planning for the student portion of S.A.M.’s national conference to be held May 5 and 6 in Chicago prior to the senior conference. News International would like to congratulate the officers and members of the S.A.M. chapter at SIU for an outstanding year of programming and chapter management.
Congratulations also go to The College of St. Thomas and St. Norbert College. During the year, S.A.M. members at St. Norbert College were visited by members of the local business community who represented several different fields of interest. Their guest speakers included a bank officer, an assistant manager of a football team, and a travel agent. The students also took tours of the Schreiber Cheese Company and the Manitowac Engineering Company. St. Norbert also received points for attending some of the meetings of the Fox Valley senior chapter in Manitowac.
Fifty-two schools are participating this year in the Campus Chapter Performance Program, and Lou Morgenier, S.A.M.’s national director of campus chapters, is hoping that more schools will join in the 1980 program. To this end, Lou has revised and condensed the CCPP manual to four concise pages and made the entire procedure simpler and easier. The new manual is in the process of being approved and should reach the campus chapters in early January.
As part of next year’s program, a new award will be given-the Campus Chapter of the Year award-that will include a plaque, a scholarship to AMA’s Operation Enterprise, and certificates of recognition for the faculty advisor and chapter president. Final results of the 1979 program will be given in the next issue of News International. SAM-NI
