The Great Resignation: Determinants and Effects

The programming committee for the 77th Annual SAM International Business Conference is pleased to announce the acceptance of the presentation The Great Resignation: Determinants and Effects, authored by Sami Abbasi and Moncef Belhadjali of Norfolk State University.

Presentation Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped our society in number of ways. It has impacted the business world and accelerated the number of workers voluntarily leaving their jobs. According to the Labor Department data, more than 4.5 million workers voluntarily quit their jobs (Davidson, 2022; Goldberg, 2021; Goldberg, 2022). Ironically, some workers are celebrating their resignations by turning to social media platforms rejecting professional norms and vent. The great resignation, as it has become known, reflects the wave of walkouts of employees that have impacted supply chain bottlenecks, retail, hospitality, health care, tech, and other sectors of the fragile economy (Ukueberuwa, 2022).
