At Stephen F. Austin State University, Evelyn Maure’s journey is defined by growth, confidence, and a willingness to step forward even when it felt uncomfortable. As a 2026 Regional Outstanding Student Award recipient, her story reflects the very purpose of the recognition: celebrating development over time and the courage to evolve as a leader.
When Evelyn first joined the Society for Advancement of Management, she described herself as reserved, someone who struggled to speak in front of others. Like many first-generation college students, she faced the uncertainty of navigating academic and professional pathways without a clear roadmap. What she found in SAM was not just an organization, but a community that helped her build confidence and discover her voice.
Through her involvement, Evelyn began to take on new challenges that pushed her beyond her comfort zone. Serving as chapter secretary, she developed critical skills in communication, organization, and accountability. More importantly, she began to see herself as a leader. From coordinating chapter communications to leading a resume workshop and organizing volunteer initiatives, she stepped into roles that required both confidence and responsibility.
Her impact within the chapter has been both measurable and meaningful. Evelyn played a key role in expanding membership, helping grow participation significantly by recruiting students across multiple disciplines. Her efforts reflect a broader vision of SAM as an inclusive space, one that extends beyond business majors to students interested in leadership, service, and professional growth.
That commitment to inclusion extends into her academic and technical pursuits. As a Computer Information Systems major with a minor in General Business, Evelyn brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her work. Her projects, ranging from data analysis to software development, demonstrate her ability to connect technical skills with practical application. Whether analyzing consumer behavior through data or building user-focused applications, she approaches each challenge with curiosity and intention.
Beyond the classroom, Evelyn has consistently sought opportunities to engage with her community. From volunteering at fundraising events to supporting campus initiatives, she has demonstrated a commitment to service that aligns with the values of SAM. Her involvement in events like STEM outreach has allowed her to contribute to a broader impact, helping inspire the next generation of students.
Her advisor describes her as a student who recognized the value of SAM early and chose to fully invest in the experience. That investment has translated into growth not only in her skill set, but in her confidence and leadership presence. She is now preparing to take on even greater responsibility, with aspirations to step into a vice president role and continue building the organization’s reach and impact.
Evelyn’s journey is not defined by a single achievement, but by the progression she has made. She has moved from hesitation to confidence, from participation to leadership, and from uncertainty to clarity in her goals. Her story reflects the idea that leadership is not something you are born into. It is something you develop through experience, effort, and the willingness to take the next step.
The Regional Outstanding Student Award exists to recognize students who demonstrate growth, leadership, and meaningful contribution over time. Evelyn Maure embodies all three. She has embraced opportunities to challenge herself, contributed to strengthening her chapter, and developed into a leader who is ready to make an impact beyond campus.
As she continues her journey, one thing is clear. Evelyn is no longer searching for her voice. She has found it, and she is using it to lead.
