This year at SAMIBC2020 we are pleased to announce another of our presenters, Santosh Nandi from USC Sumter. Santosh will be presenting, A Framework to Apply Porter and Kramer’s “Creating Shared Value” Approach: Evidence from a Business Model’s Success and Failure in Africa and Fundamentals of Bibliometrics, Techniques and Relevance in Management Research .
Presentation 1 Abstract: The purpose of the study is to demonstrate how to apply Porter and Kramer’s “Creating Shared Value” (CSV) in developing business models for international markets. The study proposes a framework to apply CSV and discusses its application by using a British multinational telecommunications conglomerate’ success in Kenya and failure in South Africa of M-Pesa – its mobile-based financial service business model. Through the proposed framework, the study highlights that three of the four CSV strategies, i.e., (1) reconceiving products and markets, (2) redefining productivity in the value chain, and (3) defining core competence, are process-focused and have direct influence on business model success. The fourth CSV strategy – (4) enabling local cluster development, intensifies the performance of the three process-focused CSV strategies on business model success. In addition, ‘regulatory fit’ of the business strengthens the direct performance of the process-focused CSV strategies on business model success. The proposed framework serves as useful guiding tool for practitioners to justify CSV approach in developing business models for markets with matching and/or differing socio-economic and socio-political contexts.
Presentation 2 Abstract: Biblio means ‘Books’. Metrics means ‘Measurement. Bibliometrics is the statistical analysis of bibliographic dataset that is mainly focused on quantitative and citation analysis of body of literature, including journal articles, books, conference proceedings and other forms of publications. Bibliometric approaches are often applied in various fields, such as library sciences, information science, patent activities, medicine and management science.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide a ground-up introduction to Bibliometric Analysis – theories, techniques and strategies – to evaluate different aspects of management research. Participants will learn about the basics of bibliometrics and hands-on experience to conduct bibliometric-network analysis. Upon completion, participants should be able to frame research questions that can be evaluated using bibliometric approach.
Given the growing diversity of topics in management field, its landscape becoming more and more challenging over times. As a result, scholars are undecided in establishing the strengths and weakness of different research topics within the field and their relatedness. In this respect, bibliometric analysis acts as a quantitative approach to establish the impact of the different areas and to guide scholars through the past, present and future of research trends. Scholar must continue to conduct bibliometric studies keep gaining new insights about directionality of the management field. Professionals can gain insightful bibliometric reports about their business activities.
