
Josselyn Acosta, a senior at Stephen F. Austin State University majoring in Management, has been named a recipient of the Society for Advancement of Management National Outstanding Student Award. Known for her inspiring leadership, academic excellence, and unwavering commitment to growth, Josselyn has left a lasting mark on her SAM chapter and campus community.
Serving as President of her university’s SAM chapter, Josselyn has demonstrated an exceptional ability to lead, organize, and empower. From hosting guest speaker events and coordinating management simulations to leading professional development workshops, she has created meaningful experiences that support and elevate her fellow members. Her journey in SAM began with uncertainty, particularly around public speaking, but she boldly stepped outside her comfort zone to embrace every challenge. Under her leadership, the chapter has thrived, offering opportunities for members to connect, learn, and grow.
Josselyn’s impact as a student leader is matched by her strong work ethic in the professional world. As a Shift Manager at McDonald’s, she leads teams, manages operations, and ensures customer satisfaction for hundreds of guests each day. She also gained valuable sales and customer service experience at Gal-Est Carports and Metal Buildings. Her ability to balance academic responsibilities with leadership roles and part-time work speaks volumes about her adaptability and drive.
Faculty advisor Dr. Gina Harden described Josselyn as a student who exemplifies personal accountability and professionalism. “She manages her officers well, encourages participation, and has made the chapter truly productive under her leadership. Her dedication and drive make her a deserving recipient of this award,” Dr. Harden shared in her letter of recommendation.
Reflecting on her journey, Josselyn shared how SAM transformed her college experience. “Becoming part of SAM helped me discover my purpose,” she said. “I’ve grown into a mentor and leader who values connection, encouragement, and building a supportive environment. I look forward to helping others find the same inspiration I found.”
