Three of S.A.M.’s most prestigious awards were presented at this year’s National Management Conference in Chicago.

The Taylor Key, one of the highest presented to this year’s rec1p1ent, Edward C. Schleh, at a special luncheon on the second day of the meeting.

Schleh is president of Schleh Associates, Inc., Business Analysts, and is best known for his concept of “results management.” In addition to his consult­ing practice, Schleh is active in international management circles. He is a past director of the Council for International Progress in Management and has been a U.S. delegate to international management congresses sponsored by the International Committee of Scientific Management in Chile, France, Germany, Australia, and Japan.

The Taylor Key is awarded annually by S.A.M. for outstanding contribution to the advancement of the art and science of management as conceived by Frederick W. Taylor.

Twenty-four hours before the presentation of the Taylor Key, during the first day’s luncheon, Irvin Otis, manager of industrial engineering for American Motors Corporation, received the Phil Carroll Advancement of Management Award. The award honors Otis for his contributions to the field of industrial engineering in the automotive industry. Otis is a Fellow of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers; he has been cited for his application of industrial engineering methodologies and technologies in the automotive in­dustry.

At the conference banquet Thursday evening, S.A.M.’s chairman of the board, James Rutherford, presented Frank Flick, president of the Flick­Reedy Corporation of Bensenville, Illinois, with S.A.M.’s Human Relations Award.

The Human Relations Award for out­standing accomplishment in human rela­tions was instituted by the Society as an annual award in 1944 to further emphasize the prime importance of human relations in management. SAM-NI
