Three new campus chapters were chartered on February 28-all from the St. Louis, Missouri, area. Greenville College, Washington University, and Missouri Baptist College were each presented with a charter in a joint ceremony at a St. Louis restaurant.
National Vice-President of Campus Chapter Operations Moustafa Abdelsamad and S.A.M. National President Jack McGuinness were on hand to present the charters to the chapter presidents.
Carl Gustavsen, vice-president of campus chapter operations for the St. Louis senior chapter, already has the new chapters involved in area activities. Gustavsen has arranged for the three chapter presidents-Tim Ward of Greenville College, Kathy Masec of Washington University, and Susan Fowler of Missouri Baptist College to sit on a “Presidents’ Board,” which will meet prior to the senior chapter’s monthly meetings.
The three presidents will be able to share ideas and help each other in making their respective chapters active and productive. At their first meeting, they agreed to hold three annual joint meetings, one at each of the schools.
Gustavsen hopes to include in the board’s plans the six other campus chapters with which his senior chapter is affiliated, but he realizes that their geographic distance will limit the number of times that such get-togethers will be possible. Long distances not withstanding, though, about 100 students from all nine schools with S.A.M. chapters travelled to St. Louis to attend the senior chapter’s “A Day with S.A.M.” on April 18.
The event, which started at 10:30 in the morning and continued until after dinner, included speaker presentations on labor/management relations during the day and career strategies during the evening.
During the morning officers’ forum, students from SIU-Carbondale “(Illinois) presented a slide and film show that they use on their campus to attract members. The St. Louis chapter presents this “Day with S.A.M.” annually, and it is always well received by the students who attend.SAM-NI
