The programming committee for the 79th Annual SAM International Business Conference is pleased to announce the acceptance of the presentation, The Role of Personality Traits in Predicting Leadership Effectiveness by Sudeep Sharma and Krish Khurana.

In the ever-evolving landscape of business leadership, understanding the nuances that contribute to effective leadership has become paramount. A groundbreaking study poised to make significant contributions to this field is set to be presented at the upcoming SAM International Business Conference. This research, conducted by a team of scholars, delves into the intricate relationship between personality traits and leadership effectiveness, providing new insights that challenge conventional wisdom.

The study focuses on a group of 210 managers employed at a prominent agricultural marketing organization, all of whom participated by completing a meticulously validated personality scale alongside a Leadership Effectiveness Measure. The core of this research lies in its empirical examination of how different personality traits, as defined by the Hogan Personality Inventory, correlate with leadership effectiveness, as gauged by supervisor ratings.

What sets this study apart is its nuanced discovery that certain personality traits significantly predict leadership effectiveness. The findings reveal that ambition stands out as a strong predictor of effective leadership, demonstrating a considerable positive correlation. Furthermore, traits such as sociability and likeability also show significant, though somewhat lesser, positive relationships with leadership effectiveness. These results underscore the importance of these traits in the dynamics of leadership, suggesting that they play a more critical role than previously understood.

Remarkably, the study also uncovers that some of the traits traditionally valued in leaders, such as conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experiences, do not have a significant correlation with leadership effectiveness. This surprising revelation prompts a reevaluation of the criteria used in the recruitment and selection of leaders, highlighting the need for a shift in focus towards traits that are empirically proven to influence leadership positively.

The implications of these findings are far-reaching, offering valuable insights for organizations in their pursuit of effective leadership. By shedding light on the specific personality traits that enhance leadership effectiveness, this research paves the way for more informed strategies in both the selection and development of leaders. As this paper is presented at the SAM International Business Conference, it is expected to spark meaningful discussions and inspire further research in the field, ultimately contributing to the advancement of leadership practices in the business world.
