Presentation Slide for The Parking Situation: A DMAIC Approach

The programming committee for the 78th Annual SAM International Business Conference is pleased to announce the acceptance of the presentation The Parking Situation: A DMAIC Approach by Faith Fox, McKenna Tutt, Irais Ibarra, Sara Albalushi, Warda Alaisari, and Diana Tkachuk from University of Evansville.

Presentation Abstract: Many Universities and corporations experience issues with efficient parking solutions. We decided to apply the DMAIC approach from six sigma to our parking issue and search for a real solution. The inconvenience of parking during business hours has pushed students and commuters to park alongside streets. Specifically, commuters cannot find close parking to academic buildings when arriving for classes. Which has led to “illegal parking” in lots that are not designated for commuters. Students have made complaints about parking availability and there is a safety and security issue as well. Students do not feel safe walking late at night on campus.
As more facilities were built on campus, parking lots were pushed out of the area. This has caused a problem of convenience of parking, especially for commuters and other students that are arriving to classes from off campus. We utilized interviews with staff, faculty, and students as well as a survey to better understand the situation. This poster will present our findings and discuss the hypotheses within the framework of DMAIC to create a viable solution.
