Rebuilding And Re-Energizing Volunteer Organizations In A Post-Covid Environment

The programming committee for the 77th Annual SAM International Business Conference is pleased to announce the acceptance of the presentation Rebuilding and re-energizing volunteer organizations in a post-covid environment, authored by Isabelle Koslin and Robert Bell from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Tennessee Tech University.

Presentation Abstract: Leaders in almost all-volunteer organizations today face the challenge of rebuilding and reenergizing their organizations after the profound disruptions caused by the pandemic. These organizations include many churches, student clubs on campus, service organizations, and non-profits that depend on volunteers. In each case, participants are not “paid” to engage with, and work for, the organization. Their attendance, and their degree of engagement, depending on the ability of the organization to attract and energize them.

This paper will review the challenges associated with these tasks, along with relevant literature, and will share the experiences of several organizations described in the literature. The paper will also describe the strategies, successes, and failures to date from three organizations in which the authors serve as leaders.
