This year at SAMIBC2020 we are pleased to announce another of our presenters, Brian Crilly from Hood College. Brian will be presenting the paper Project Managers on Innovation Performance: The roles of Organizational Context, Project Complexity, and Team Agility.

Presentation Abstract: Project teams are constantly challenged to be innovative by providing products and services that satisfy unique customer needs in a timely and cost-effective manner. In order to be successful, project team members must carefully balance between creative problem solving and disciplined implementation of solutions. Project leaders, therefore, seek to create an environment that allows project team members to effectively and efficiently transition between the divergent process of creativity and the convergent process of implementation. This study focuses on how organizational context, a broad set of administrative mechanisms, influences innovative project performance. Based on the results of a survey of 202 project management professionals and project team members conducted in the fall of 2019, this study highlights the influences of organizational context, particularly alignment between organizational objectives and adaptability of the organization to shifting business needs, on project performance. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to quantify the relationships between organizational context, project complexity, Agile practices, and project performance. By exploring how organizational context influences project performance, this study benefits project leaders in their ongoing quest to create an environment that fosters successful project execution.
