The Society for Advancement of Management honors the memory of George H. Kisby, whose life reflected the ideals of leadership, character, and service that define the organization. Born on January 1, 1939, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, George dedicated his life to learning, professional excellence, and the betterment of others through both his career and community service.

George began his educational journey in the Atlantic City area, attending Ventnor Public Schools and Atlantic City High School before graduating from Rider College in 1960. While at Rider, he was an active member of the Society for Advancement of Management through the Rider College Chapter and a proud member of Kappa Phi fraternity. He continued his studies at Temple University before choosing to serve his country. In 1962, he completed Naval Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and went on to serve three years aboard the USS Fearless (MSO 442) as engineering officer. His naval service instilled a lifelong respect for discipline, teamwork, and public duty, values that would guide his personal and professional path.

After completing his active duty, George joined the family business, Kisby Shore Plumbing and Heating in Atlantic City. In 1972, he became the company’s president, leading it with a steady hand and a commitment to honesty and professionalism until his retirement in 2000. His leadership style reflected his belief that integrity, respect, and dedication were the true measures of success.

George’s devotion to service extended far beyond the workplace. He was deeply involved in civic and charitable organizations across New Jersey and beyond. His contributions included leadership roles with the Atlantic City Jaycees, the Kiwanis Club, the Boy Scouts, and numerous boards and associations dedicated to community improvement, healthcare, and the arts. His peers often described him as a man who led not for recognition, but out of genuine care for others and a desire to strengthen his community.

Even after retirement, George continued to serve. He spent his later years volunteering in Naples, Florida, where his passion for community engagement remained strong. Whether through civic boards, charitable initiatives, or volunteer law enforcement work, he carried forward the same spirit of responsibility and purpose that had shaped his entire life.

George H. Kisby passed away on May 26, 2015, following a courageous battle with melanoma. His life stands as a testament to the enduring power of service, leadership, and integrity. As a member of the Society for Advancement of Management, he exemplified the organization’s mission to advance ethical management and inspire others to lead with purpose. His legacy continues to remind us that the greatest measure of a leader is not the title they hold, but the difference they make in the lives of others.
