Part of Phil Carroll’s rich legacy was his years of service to S.A.M. He appeared as a speaker at nearly every major S.A.M. chapter and from 1958 to 1959 served as the Society’s president.

He chaired eight national committees, was on the editorial advisory board for S.A.M. Advanced Management Journal, and in 1965 was given the Society’s highest honor, the Taylor Key Award.

Carroll, who died in 1971, was an independent professional engineer. In a career that spanned nearly 60 years, he published more than 130 papers and numerous books.

Among his other honors, Carroll was elected a fellow of the International Academy of Management CIOS in 1969 and was given the Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Award in 1970. SAM-NI
