S.A.M. is gearing up its new Corporate Internship Program for full implementation next year with a test run among a sampling of 20 campus chapters this fall.
The random sampling is designed to work out the bugs in the new S.A.M. service that aims to give students an opportunity for on-the-job experience. The program not only will connect students with available internships but will guide them in persuading organizations to create internships suited to their chapter’s special interests.
An important component of the program will be The Internship Program Manual, due to be mailed in October. The manual is a guide to the solicitation of internships and gives advice on researching firms and persuading them of the value of an intern.
S.A.M.’s participation in the program at the national level is another important feature. The Society has already begun canvassing organizations in an effort to connect S.A.M. campus members with internship programs. The internships will be awarded to chapters based on their standing in the Campus Chapter Performance Program. Each chapter will nominate three of its members for an internship, and the winner will be chosen by the national organization.
According to Frances Scully, who as S.A.M.’s own summer intern helped put the Corporate Internship Program together, the selling point of the program will be the high caliber of S.A.M. interns. “The companies are guaranteed top-notch students,” says Scully. SAM-NI
