To offset rising operating expenditures, S.A.M. must raise all membership dues, effective July 1. This decision was reached at the February 22 S.A.M. board meeting and was based on a report submitted by the S.A.M. dues review committee headed by S.A.M. President-Elect Clifford Doubek.

The increase voted by the board will be the first since 1977, despite continuously higher costs.

After careful consideration, the board decided to increase senior membership dues from $46 to $55, or 20 percent. Of that money, $13.00 will go to local chapters in the form of a rebate (that’s 30 percent more than in the past); areas will receive a $1.00 rebate for each member. The membership dues of Associate I and Associate II members were each raised $5 to $28 and $15, respectively. Local chapters will receive a $6.00 rebate on membership dues for Associate I members and a $3.00 rebate on dues for Associate II members. There will be a $0.50 rebate to areas on each Associate I membership but none for Associate II memberships.

To help finance membership recruitment, S.A.M. will reinstate entrance fees. Beginning July 1, new senior members will be required to pay a fee of $15, of which one-third will go to the local chapter. New Associate I members will pay $10, of which 50 percent will be returned to the local chapter. No entrance fee will be charged for Associate II members. The board also approved at its February 22 meeting increases for student dues. For membership for a full academic year, the new charge will be $10.00. Students who prefer to pay per semester will pay $6.00 for the first semester, $7.00 for the second semester. Previously, student members paid $7.00 for the full academic year or $4.00 for the first semester and $5.00 for the second semester. SAM-NI
