Fischer was appointed the first president of the University Division of S.A.M. in 1952 and served in that office until his retirement in 1970. Starting with a few isolated chapters, he established a campus headquarters office at Franklin and Marshall College where he was a professor of economics and business administration. Dedicated to the college students, he traveled extensively across the United States to discuss S.A.M. During his career he was instrumental in starting over 160 campus chapters.

Fischer also served on the S.A.M. board of directors from 1953 to 1970 and was a Fellow of the Society.

The Harold Fischer Memorial Fund has been established at Franklin and Marshall College in recognition of his many contributions to the school. Harold Fischer will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. SAM-NI
