Peter J. Canzano, president of the S.A.M. chapter at Rider College in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. became a familiar face to New York headquarters staff during the month of January. Canzano spent three weeks working with National Director of Campus Chapter Operations Lou Morgenier on a number of projects vital to campus members.

The first task that Canzano tackled was the revision of the campus chapter operations manual. In addition to simplifying some of the language, Canzano added a sample chapter constitution, a section that describes the American Management Associations, material on how to start a chapter, and an affiliation directory.

The affiliation directory identifies for each campus chapter the nearest senior chapter and its area director. The work involved in compiling this directory was tedious and time consuming, and Canzano’s persistence certainly deserves to be commended. Canzano also worked with Morgenier in drafting a proposal for setting up a summer management internship program designed to give S.A.M. campus members firsthand corporate experience and exposure to the business world. One of the major selling points for the internship is the students’ membership in S.A.M., which serves as proof that these men and women are genuinely interested in a career in management.

Morgenier was especially grateful to Canzano for all the hard work he put in during the time he spent at S.A.M. headquarters. The S.A.M. member had already proved himself to be an effective organizer at his school, and he put those talents to good use at headquarters during his internship.

Canzano heads an BO-member chapter at Rider, and last semester he managed to increase its treasury more than six times over by holding an overwhelmingly successful event a S.A.M. JAM. The dance earned the Rider chapter $2,200 and drew about 800 Rider and Trenton State College students. JAM 11 will be held on March 7. Canzano’s three weeks at headquarters went quickly, but not before he had the opportunity to learn a good deal about the inner workings of a large organization. It was an experience, says Peter, that was well worthwhile. SAM-NI
